This is an opportune moment for caring individuals to assist the peoples of this land usher in a new decade of promise and compassion. Fundamental improvements in education and infrastructure will provide these beleaguered nations with a solid foundation upon which to build a stable future.
Even populations not subjected to political turmoil are struggling against the realities of existing in an impoverished land, namely: lack of resources, limited education, and poor nutrition. Many inhabitants live on less than a dollar a day. Although there have been some economic gains in the urban areas throughout West Africa, this progress has been confined to a particular class, and born no significant improvements to the lives of rural folk. In most communities growth in education, health, and commerce is stagnant or even receding. Despite this regression, the population of this unique region remain strong spirited. Rich in heritage and culture, they do not lack the will and pride but the means to lift themselves from the cycle of poverty.
