WAVE (West African Village & Environment Project) is a non-profit organization formed in 2008 to assist people in one of the world's most poverty stricken regions. It was designed to promote K-12 and environmental education, in addition to developing infrastructure and local commerce in West African communities. Our aim is to establish sustainable projects by working with villages and individuals, providing long-term oversight and training. About UsOur organization’s current focal zone is the Central River Region in the Gambia, though we look to expand our efforts to other struggling areas. Here, three-quarters of the population live below the poverty level. WAVE board member, Matthew Selinske, works in this region as program manager for the Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Project (CRP). The proximity of our liaison to development projects and his knowledge of the locality provide quality control and omit administrative costs, maximizing the efficiency of donations. This environmentally rich, economically defunct region strongly benefits from a streamlined organization that lays the groundwork for drastically needed education, environment, and infrastructural projects.
